A Pirate Map of the Vancouver Island Exhibition
MILUG members brought a unique pirate-themed LEGO® display, a sunflower display, and a hands-on mosaic activity station to this year’s Vancouver Island Exhibition, giving visitors plenty to explore and create.

The display was uniquely designed to mirror the layout of the Vancouver Island Exhibition grounds, reimagining what the site might have looked like during a swashbuckling pirate era. Familiar locations from the fairgrounds were reimagined into pirate-themed scenes and landmarks. A bustling pig roast occupied the area corresponding to today’s food truck zone, while a grand castle stood proudly where the Home Arts building is now located.
The detailed scenes, colourful characters, and playful storytelling drew crowds of all ages, with many visitors spending time spotting the clever references to the exhibition grounds and searching for the hidden skeletons, treasure chests and Jack Sparrrows, making it both a fun treasure hunt and a creative interpretation of the actual fairgrounds.
The MILUG display is located in the Home Arts Building and this year Home Arts year had a sunflower theme, so we also put together a display of LEGO® sunflowers.

Equally popular was the LEGO® mosaic activity station. Throughout the event, guests of all ages showcased their creativity by adding unique patterns, designs, and color combinations. Watching the mosaics take shape piece by piece became an attraction in itself, with many visitors returning to see how the artwork had evolved over the course of the exhibition.
Together, the pirate display and mosaic activity station demonstrated the power of LEGO® to bring people together through creativity, imagination, and hands-on fun. We appreciate everyone who stopped by to chat, admire our display, and take part in the mosaic activity. Events like these are a great opportunity to share our love of LEGO® with the community and inspire builders of all ages.
