Celebrating Creativity at the 6th Annual Mid Island Brick fest
The 6th annual Mid Island Brick Fest brought a full day of colour, creativity, and community to Nanaimo’s Country Club Centre on October 25. Running from 10am to 4pm, this free community event welcomed families, LEGO® enthusiasts, and curious newcomers to explore and imagine through LEGO® bricks.
With record attendance and an expanded lineup of activities, this year’s event was the largest yet. Both local and visiting creators displayed impressive creations including a 4 foot tall robot, a wearable LEGO® shirt made from LEGO®, life-size Fisher Price toys, a microscale Expo 86, and so many other amazing models. Check out the MILUG Facebook album for more photos!
A brand‑new hands‑on section made its debut, giving visitors the chance to interact with the LEGO® models including Plinko, Connect 4 and other popular games. Whole some of the interactive models challenged guests to figure out mind bending puzzles, others explored building techniques and movement. Check out the MILUG Facebook album for more photos!
Activity stations included the always‑popular Great Ball Contraption (GBC) and two stations with different types of LEGO® robotics by our guests Nanaimo Science and First LEGO® League.
Guests also enjoyed crowd favourites like Minifigure Bingo, train jousting, and the kids building contest. To see the winners and honourable mentions, check out the MILUG Facebook Creature Creation Contest album.

Guests were also invited to identify the movie scene from Goonies to The Godfather in this MILUG collaboration. Check out the MILUG Facebook album for photos of each individual scene. Did you find them all?
When guests needed a moment to recharge, they could sit back and enjoy LEGO® stop‑motion films, browse Minifigure photography, or flip through a selection of LEGO® books and fun facts.
There weren’t only books to read, but LEGO® creations inspired by books! MILUG’s collaboration with the Vancouver Island Regional Library Wellington Branch is a fan favourite every year bringing popular children’s books to life in LEGO® form!
