Small Bricks, Wild Imagination: Animal Habitats Come to Life!
Our latest workshop, Small Bricks, Wild Imagination, turned one corridor at Woodgrove Centre into a bustling mini–zoo, powered by kid creativity. Tailored to kids aged 6 to 12, three workshop sessions were offered throughout the day.
Each builder kicked things off by choosing a character from the Animals Collectible Minifigure (CMF) Series 28—everything from quirky koalas to mischievous monkeys. That tiny minifigure became the spark for a one‑of‑a‑kind animal habitat, dreamed up and built from each builder’s imagination.
With a blue or green baseplate in hand, kids dove into designing jungles, oceans, burrows, treetop hideaways, icy landscapes, and habitats no adult could have predicted. The energy was incredible—kids swapping ideas, testing wild structures, and proudly showing off clever details only they could imagine.
At the end of each session, we gathered every habitat together to form one giant, wonderfully creative LEGO® zoo! Seeing all those individual creations click together into a shared world is always a moment that gets the attention of onlookers and those just passing by.
Then came the part the kids look forward to most: show and tell. One by one, builders introduced their animal, explained their habitat, and shared the stories behind their creations. Parents and guardians beamed, MILUG members grinned, and the kids—well, they absolutely owned the spotlight. It’s consistently one of the most joyful parts of the workshop.
MILUG members built various habitats to provide some guidance to the young builders. We purposefully chose to represent animal habitats that were different form those in the CMF series. To bring everything together, MILUG members also built other features you mind find in a zoo including the entrance and ticket booth, food stands, and washrooms.
And just like that, our zoo closed for the day—its creators heading home with a free LEGO® polybag and their imaginations running wild for their next LEGO® adventure.
