Wrapping up 2025 with fun and games
Our year-end gathering is always a fun way for members to get together and celebrate all that we accomplished throughout the past year. We kicked things off with some minifigure trading and a word association icebreaker which was pretty funny and a nice way to bring everyone together.
Once everyone was warmed up we jumped into a team speed build challenge. We drew names from a minifigure head to select teams and then raced against each other to see which team could complete the Trotting Lantern (80116) first with the fewest mistakes. And boy was it a tight race! It was such a close race that no one was free to take any photos while we were building!

After a short break we switched gears and did a master build activity. Each member had to use parts from two different sets to create their own unique build reflecting something they might see on a postcard of their favourite place or a place they want to visit.
Although not all parts from each set had to be used, there was a catch – a list of mandatory parts that had to appear in the build, and there were some tricky parts on the list! This made for a lot of laughs and some wicked creativity. Check out some of the builds below.

We always enjoy team relays and we managed to do two different ones. The first relay had teams racing to build Sweetheart Tweety Bird (40824). Each member of each team would race across the room and follow the steps of one page of the instruction booklet. Sounds simple, but it was intense and particularly challenging if a mistake was made that went unnoticed after a few turns. But everyone had fun and lots of laughs!
We mixed teams up for the second relay, which was a new one we haven’t tried before. A series of 2×4 brick designs were placed across the room from each team. Members took turns racing across the room and recreating each design, which turned out to be much harder than we anticipated. Some of the connections were tricky and if the person before made an error, then it was likely that everyone after would make the same mistake. It sure brought out everyone’s competitive streak in the most hilarious ways.
As always, we finished the evening with a potluck and a set draft. Our members are great builders and great cooks – there was quite the spread! This year’s celebration was the perfect way to wrap up a year of building new LEGO models and new friendships. It was a great reminder that our club is not just a hobby group, but a community where adults can connect and have fun with our favourite plastic bricks!
